    Performs full supervisory working level technical and skilled work in supervision of personnel engaged in the delivery of Streetcar services. This position is responsible for supervising the preventive maintenance and repair of Streetcar vehicles and support equipment including track switches, fare boxes, etc. Additional supervisory tasks including emergency operations and response; SCADA control and monitoring and OCC functions. 




    The following examples are intended to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive or restrictive.

    • Responsible for the direction and supervision of routine servicing, inspections, repairs and modifications for the vehicles on a daily basis in order to meet fleet availability requirements

    • Supervises all maintenance and repair activities in compliance with OEM requirements, the streetcar maintenance program and associated SOPs

    • Supervises staff and/or contractors performing routine maintenance and inspection of power substations and overhead contact system.
    • Monitor and supports servicing staff in ensuring Streetcars are serviced and clean for service availability
    • Supports Maintenance Manager in the care and maintenance of shop equipment that is utilized for Streetcar maintenance and repair
    • Moves Streetcars into and out of the shop for inspections and servicing occasionally
    • Requires all subordinates to adhere to all safety and organizational rules, policies and procedures
    • Works with Streetcar manufacturer field personnel to support warranty work and administration
    • Inputs/provides accurate documentation in RTA; the Company’s Asset Management program
    • Notifies appropriate upper level managerial personnel regarding maintenance problems; offers solutions and coordinates efforts for resolution
    • Supports Transportation staff to ensure timely pullouts from the yard for revenue service on a daily basis
    • Supports Transportation staff in troubleshooting and towing disabled vehicles back to the shop whenever required
    • Reports all accidents, incidents, or unusual occurrences and accurately completes all required reporting and documentation, this supervisory authority to effectively discipline and/or effectively recommend discipline
    • Diligently operates as an overseer of the Streetcar System in order to ensure a safe, secure and clean operation for the public and all employees and passengers
    • Supervises and monitors to ensure Federal, state and Company Safety compliance with applicable rules and regulations by technicians and take corrective disciplinary action as necessary

    Independence of Action: Vehicle Maintenance Foreman sets overall program objectives.


    Personnel Management Responsibility: Work includes leading, planning, scheduling, organizing, directing and reviewing activities of supervised personnel. Other personnel functions as they relate to the disciplinary process are also included in the work of this class. Supervises and evaluates work of personnel to ensure adherence to policies and procedures. Issues discipline, approves time off, early release, etc.


    Working Relationships: Relationships are typically harmonious with fellow supervisory personnel, the client and the general public at all levels. Utilizes excellent judgment and discretion regarding assignment of tasks, counseling’s, discipline, and the dissemination of information important to company business and interests. Attends managerial meetings. 




    Education, Licensing, and Certifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
    • Relevant training or certification in a related technical field is preferred
    • Possess a valid Ohio Driver License for at least 3 years
    • Possess an Ohio Commercial Driver License or be able to obtain one independently within 3 weeks of notice of selection



    • Four years’ working experience in transit rail vehicle maintenance and/or a related field (e.g. high voltage electrical, electrical/mechanical, electronics or aeronautics) is preferred.
    • PLC Logic Controls, HMI Interface, DC Drives and hydraulic braking experience is a plus.
    • Two years’ experience in a supervisory role. Equivalence of experience and education will be considered.


    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and other Requirements:

    • Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of work execution within general area of assignment
    • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions and procedures
    • Knowledge of the union contract (if applicable) and how to administer it in the direction of unit technicians
    • Ability to motivate others while supervising their work
    • Dependability
    • Ability to demonstrate leadership ability and function effectively within a team-oriented work environment
    • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow Managers and Supervisors
    • Thorough knowledge of the geography of the service area
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
    • Computer skills or aptitude for acquiring computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs; know how to operate standard office equipment, two-way radios, fleet vehicles and other related shop equipment; familiarity with Maintenance Management Systems would be beneficial
    • Must be able to read and comprehend technical specifications and manuals
    • Must be able to work amid constant interruptions, prioritize and deal with time pressured deadlines and be able to clearly communicate during such occasions
    • Must be autonomous, self-directed and possess the ability to handle crisis and conflict situations


    Pre-Employment Requirements:

    • Must submit and successfully pass drug testing, criminal background check and verification of previous employment
    • Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination


    Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to pass periodical DOT physical examinations and random drug/alcohol screens as this is a safety sensitive position
    • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules, including weekends as needed
    • This position requires the wearing of a uniform
    • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of conditions (e.g. weather, rain, dust, noise, heat, cold, etc.)
    • Job requires standing, bending, stooping, kneeling and walking throughout the shift
    • Must handle parts and equipment ranging from 10 to 50 lbs.
