    Overview of Position:

    Under management supervision, performs skilled mechanical work as required to diagnose, maintain, repair, service and inspect Company operated Maintenance of Way (MOW) and “Off Hi-Way” construction equipment to ensure the highest level of equipment availability and efficiency to VTMI personnel.

    Responsibilities

     

    • Ensures equipment operates in a safe, efficient, productive condition by performing high quality maintenance repairs and inspections
    • Inspects, diagnoses problems, repairs and maintains mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic units and components
    • Repairs, troubleshoots and installs component parts of MOW and Off Hi-Way equipment
    • Performs preventive maintenance procedure inspections to vehicles as required by applicable Federal, State and Local guidelines, which includes required records of inspections and repairs for DOT trucks
    • Performs field and on-site repairs as needed on VTMI equipment
    • Maintain equipment records of repairs, maintenance and inspections preformed on VTMI equipment
    • Other duties as assigned by General Manager and/or his designee

     

    Qualifications

     

     

    Education, Licensing, and Certifications:

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent

    Experience:

    • Two years of hands-on experience in the repair and maintenance of a wide array of construction and off- highway equipment and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience

    Skills and Knowledge Required:

    • Comprehensive knowledge of diesel and gas engines, automatic transmissions, airbrakes, hydraulics, electrical and be able to read and understand shop manuals and wiring diagrams
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
    • Ability to perform gas and arc welding
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
    • Ability to obtain a commercial drivers’ license and maintain it in good standing 

    Pre-Employment Requirements: 

    • Must successfully pass criminal background check, drug test and physical examination    
    • On-call 24/7, 365 days a year, with allowances for vacations, sick leave, and related time off
    • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, to lift objects weighing a minimum of 50 lbs. and must have the ability to distinguish colors and to hear warning signals, radio and telephone device
