Responsible for large single facility or multiple-facility operations including all transit operations and customer service teams.

     

    The Director of Operations reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the location.

    Responsibilities

    1. Directs the daily activities of all operators and coordinates the activities of facility managers; manages the customer service team and dispatch team.
    2. Ensures that operations resources are scheduled efficiently and all routes and shifts are fully staffed
    3. Works closely with the maintenance department to ensure that all operation requirements are met
    4. Reviews performance reports and establishes performance goals; resolves interdepartmental or inter-facility issues; ensures that process improvements are implemented.
    5. Makes hiring decisions for authorized roles; evaluates the work performance of staff; oversees compliance with labor contracts.
    6. Maintains Equal Employment Opportunity compliance and reporting.
    7. Ensures that accident/incident investigations are completed accurately; oversees the implementation of any safety and training as a result of accident/incident reviews.
    8. At the direction of the General Manager, manages relationships with employees, customers, suppliers, contractors, industry associations, the community, legislatures and representatives, regulatory agencies, and the media.
    9. Ensures that all safety goals and directives are met; assists with compliance of all safety training/ standards and requirements to include drug and alcohol training/testing.
    10. Develops and monitors Operations department budget; assists with setting of business unit goals and financial performance criteria for operating locations; communicates goals and financial performance to employees.
    11. Assists in the development and oversight of bid workups and analysis and participates in the bid process.
    12. Maintains confidentiality of all information.
    13. Other duties as required.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Logistics, Transportation or related field preferred.
    • 10 or more years of relevant transit management experience required.
    • 5 or more years’ experience with fixed route/para-transit operations.
    • Labor relations experience, including contract negotiations and arbitrations required.
    • Business development experience required.
    • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws.
    • Understanding of Medicaid requirements for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) service.
    • Thorough knowledge of laws, ordinances and regulations underlying the transit operation.
    • Thorough knowledge of the methods of operation of the transit system’s staff and operational departments.
    • Ability to deal with state and local government.
    • Ability to manage cost control and financial/budget experience handling multiple locations.
    • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint programs.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills; excellent presentation skills.
    • Ability to organize and perform work efficiently; strong attention to details.
    • Ability to work effectively with labor; including labor grievances and negotiations.
    • Travel requirement (as a percent): 20% travel between properties and for meetings and outside training.
