    We have Monday through Friday workweeks and part-time weekend work schedules available. We accept applications for both full/part time jobs in our South San Francisco and San Jose locations.

    Responsibilities


    • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs, maintains and installs component parts of commuter buses & shuttle vehicles
    • Inspects and diagnoses problems on all assigned vehicles and equipment
    • Services and/or repairs all assigned vehicles and related light and heavy mechanical equipment
    • Performs preventative maintenance procedure inspections to transit & shuttle vehicles as required by Federal, state, and local guidelines; performs preventative maintenance as needed
    • Performs upgrades and/or modifications on coach systems and equipment
    • Performs road calls and on-the-road repairs as needed
    • Maintains a clean and well-organized work area

    • Demonstrate the ability to learn basic mechanical tasks
    • You'll also need a high level of motivation, energy and a stakeholder-focused attitude

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED
    • Must be age 21 or older

    Education, Licensing, and Certifications Preferred:

    • Appropriate Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications preferred
    • CDL preferred, but not required

    Experience:

    • Two (2) or more years of progressive experience in the repair and maintenance of all types of heavy duty transit & shuttle equipment and /or at least one (1) years of mechanical trade school training involving vehicles, buses and heavy equipment mechanic.

    Skills and Knowledge Required:

    • Good written and oral communication skills
    • Broad understanding of all mechanical systems related to transit & shuttle vehicles
    • Ability to read, interpret and apply documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to read and write routine reports, forms, and other documentation or correspondence
    • Ability to organize and perform work efficiently; strong attention to details

    Pre-Employment Requirements:

    • Must submit to drug testing and a background check
    • Must be able to pass a DOT physical examination

     

     

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

     

     

    1. Boot Allowance.

    Effective January 1, 2018, each full time Maintenance employee is required to wear steel toe safety boots, and will be entitled up to $175.00 allowance per year to purchase work boots for work. Each employee will receive reimbursement once per calendar year upon presentation of the receipt. The company will establish one of the following shoe trucks to arrive at Compass Transportation and measure each employee’s proper size. Each Maintenance employee shall browse thru the catalog and select their choice of boots. Boots must be steel toe and work boots.

     

    Companies that will be utilized are Red Wing Shoes, National Work Wear or any others locally approved vendor. For program eligibility, the employee is required to surpass the ninety (90) day probationary period. For full time Maintenance employees who worked the full calendar year 2017, they will receive a one-time boot allowance in December 2017.

     

    1. Tool Allowance.

    As a new program for the full time Maintenance employees excluding Bus Washers at Compass Transportation, the tool allowance program will begin effective January 1, 2018 per the following schedule:

     

    1. Class A Mechanic or Foremen:                    $1,200.00
    2. Class B Mechanic:                                       $1,000.00
    3. Class C Mechanic and Apprentice:              $800.00     

    Requirements for the year 2018 and future years:

     

    Annually, Maintenance employees will save their receipts for tools purchased throughout the year. At the end of the year or when an employee has collected sufficient receipts per their classification, the employee can submit the receipts for reimbursement regarding those amounts. The maximum amount that each employee is entitled to is based upon their classification.

     

    For year 2017, each full time Mechanic will receive the following allowance payable in December 2017 per the current classification of each Mechanic. This is a one-time payment for year 2017, and will be prorated if the current employee has worked less than the full complete twelve (12) months.

     

    1. Class A Mechanic or Foremen:          $1,200.00
    2. Class B Mechanic:                            $1,000.00
    3. Class C Mechanic:                            $800.00

     

    • Retention Bonus.

    Each Maintenance full time employee will be provided at the end of each year, a retention bonus for being employed at Compass Transportation for the full complete twelve (12) months. The retention bonus shall be prorated if the current employee has worked less than the full complete twelve (12) months. This bonus will be retroactive for the current calendar year, starting in year 2017. The Retention Bonus will be paid annually every December in the amount of $1,000.00. To remain eligible for the retention bonus, the employee shall maintain and sustain full time employment status for the full complete twelve (12) months.

     

    1. Referral Bonus.

    Any employee that refers a Mechanic that is hired and surpasses the ninety (90) day probationary period will be provided $500.00 after the ninety (90) day period, and an additional $500 when the hired Mechanic has completed the full twelve (12) months of continuous employment service.

     

    The referral bonus for the employee shall be prorated if the new hire Mechanic has worked less than the full complete ninety (90) day period. The additional $500 shall be prorated if the new hire Mechanic has worked less than the full complete twelve (12) months.

     

    After the completion of full complete twelve (12) months of continuous employment, the new Mechanic hired will be eligible for the retention bonus of $1,000.00.
