    Our Director of Safety and Compliance has ownership of continual risk mitigation across our five (5) sites and our large on-road presence. He/She will be tasked with reviewing, improving and evolving all of our policies and training programs to ensure the business is a leader in the field of Safety and Risk. This position leads a team of seven (7) and will be responsible for all future hires within team.

     

     

    Responsibilities

     

    • Ensures the company is compliant with our regulating bodies at all times.
    • Organizes and fosters a positive safety culture amongst employees through a structured communication and training program.
    • Develops and administers an equipment and site audit program on a scheduled basis to ensure the company has visibility on our compliance levels.
    • Directs all aspects of site safety training; oversees all classroom and behind-the-wheel training plans and programs, logistics and documentation; responsible for the oversight, auditing and direction of records management and administration pertaining to training, safety and loss matters.
    • Hires, trains, and manages departmental staff; develops, implements, monitors, reviews, and updates policies, procedures, and processes.
    • Ensures that all accidents and incidents are ethically and properly investigated and filed with the company’s third party administrator.
    • Enacts and enforces decisions regarding all accidents that are undecided by the Accident Review Committee.
    • Acts as the subject matter expert within Departmental of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Coach Safety Administration), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA; CAL-OSHA) compliance and regulations.
    • Ensures that all reporting and risk management tools, including WebRisk, are updated and accurate at all times.
    • Oversees the resolution, administration, and reporting of worker’s compensation (grievances, modified duty, and return to work programs), general liability and vehicle liability insurance carriers and insurance consultants as it affects safety and loss control.
    • Conducts evaluations and inspections to mitigate risk and minimize risk of loss potential; ensures that safety inspections are properly scheduled, carried out, monitored, acted upon, and documented.
    • Ensures contract compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company regulations; ensures that related record keeping and reporting requirements are met and maintained; provides support in implementing the approved recommendations.
    • Ensures that all safety and related training programs are within compliance with federal guidelines and that all employees are properly trained.
    • Ensures that safety meetings are held on a consistent basis and documentation of the meetings are properly maintained; oversees the system safety program to ensure compliance with Federal Transportation Administration requirements.
    • Manages and ensures compliance with substance abuse testing program using Federal and Company standards and coordinates with the third party vendors.
    • Manages the location safety, training, risk, and compliance departments including Hours of Service (HOS).
    • Coaches and motivates staff; provides guidance and direction on problems and issues; delegates work assignments considering employee skills and development needs as required.
    • Maintains confidentiality of all information.
    • Ensures compliance with company policy and requirements with Smart Drive and Webrisk or similar products.

     

    Qualifications

     

    • Three (3) to five (5) years of safety, training, and/or risk management experience.
    • Prior experience as a manager and collaboration with management staff.
    • Bachelor’s (BA/BS) degree is preferred.
    • Strong analytical skills with critical reasoning and thinking.
    • Proficiency and skill with safety and risk management tools, applications, and systems (i.e.: Web Risk, Sterling, etc.).
    • Proficiency and skill with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
    • Ability and competency to be on the ground and constantly on the go.
    • Ability and strong willingness to frequent travel and work remotely and weekly within multiple locations, properties, and facilities including attendance of various meetings, internally and externally.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to work flexible work schedules as needed.
    • 40-60% of work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well-ventilated facilities
    • Ability to work outdoors and on vehicles
    • Work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer.
    • The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
