Overview

Provides all services safely and reliably.

 

 

The Operations Manager reports directly to the Director of Operations in fulfilling daily operations including but not limited to:  route supervision, staff and operator supervision, effective communication with internal and external customers and coaching employees for optimal performance, managing the entire operation in the absence of the Director of Operations, complying with all Company policies and managing the operation within the budgetary plan for the location.

 

 

Responsibilities

  1. Conduct a walk around the premises prior to beginning the day’s activities to evaluate the operation. This will include making documentation of items related to safety, checking parking conditions, random inspection of buses, cleanliness of the location, office and shop conditions, and all other items related to this evaluation.
  2. Supervises A.M./P.M. sign in boards to ensure all routes run on time. 
  3. Monitors radio communications during route times.  Ensures that delays in service are recorded and communicated to the customer.  Ensures that all accidents or breakdowns are handled appropriately.
  4. Monitors operator absence and tardiness.  Initiates appropriate disciplinary action in a manner consistent with company/location policy. 
  5. Is available at the dispatch counter after A.M. routes to assist operators with questions or problems.  Supervises the communication of operator concerns or route changes with the Customer.
  6. Assists in meeting customer requirements. Follow up on all customer issues in a timely manner. 
  7. Monitors the master sign in sheets and equipment list to make sure all operator changes, equipment changes and report times are current and accurate. 
  8. Assists the Director of Operations with supervision of location staff.  Communicates job requirements and expectations.  Monitors the performance of staff and provides coaching and guidance as required. 
  9. Ensures that Transdev meets all Affirmative Action and ADA requirements. Enforces Transdev’s commitment to Affirmative Action with employees, vendors, veterans, and disabled applicants.
  10. Assists in problem solving and human resources with regard to Transdev employees, taking the initiative to ‘make things better’ and promote the ‘Preferred Employer’ philosophy at the location.
  11. Takes corrective action with an employee who fails to meet company policy or customer policy/standards.
  12. When required, assists with new hire orientations.
  13. Shall be fully trained and capable of running other departments in the event of a vacancy.
  14. Works closely with the Director of Operations to monitor location’s business plan. Assist with end of the month profit and loss register/summary reports, assist in developing location business plan and conduct financial analyses of the operation.
  15. In conjunction with the Safety and Training Manager, ensures all federal, state, local and company recordkeeping requirements are met.
  16. In conjunction with Safety and Training Manager, acts as a contact person for the controlled substance program.  This includes pre-employment, random drug and alcohol, and reasonable suspicion.
  17. Maintains the appropriate license requirement to drive a route as necessary.
  18. Performs other management requests and directives as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the contract and Transdev.

Qualifications

Education, Licensing, and Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required
  • Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger endorsement and Air brake endorsement required

Experience:

  • 3 or more years of relevant transit supervisory experience required

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Thorough knowledge of basic laws, ordinances and regulations underlying the transit operation
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods of operation of the transit system’s staff and operational departments
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and relevant database programs
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to organize and perform work efficiently; strong attention to details
  • Ability to work effectively with labor; may include labor grievances and negotiations

Travel requirement (as a percent): <5% travel for occasional meetings

 

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Must be able to maintain a DOT medical card
  • Must submit to drug testing and a criminal background check

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to sit. Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; and smell. Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Up to 30% of the workday is spent outdoors monitoring service on routes, transit facilities, and company locations.
  • Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold and in a damp environment with moderate noise.
  • Remaining work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer; time is spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer.
