Paratransit Drivers needed in Taunton, MA.

Responsibilities

 

Drives van to transport passengers by performing the following duties.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Assists passengers to enter and leave van.
  • Operates vehicle according to assigned schedule.
  • Picks up passengers, collects & counts fares and protects revenue collected according to procedures.
  • Operates vehicle maintaining appropriate speed and distance from preceding vehicles.
  • Inspects vehicle (including brakes, lights, signs, doors, buzzers, wheelchair lift and horn) to ensure serviceable condition.
  • Reports any identified mechanical problem/defect to supervisor. Notes condition of vehicle in vehicle log.
  • Responsible for the safety of passengers and equipment.
  • Responsible for securing passengers in safety restraints.
  • Maintains adequate knowledge of the van system in order to provide routine information and direction to the public.
  • Maintains required paperwork, including written record of arrival and drop-off time.
  • Maintains radio contact with Dispatch office at all times.
  • Gives proper information to passengers.
  • Notifies the Dispatcher of any emergency, requesting additional assistance if needed.
  • Controls emergency situation in proper manner.
  • Evacuates passengers if an emergency situation warrants and the dispatcher is not available to make the decision.
  • Prepares accident and incident reports immediately as required.
  • Obeys all traffic laws.
  • Performs other duties as required.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must successfully pass required driving test and training class during probationary period.  Must renew training accompany rules or state/federal regulations mandate.

 

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

 

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

 

Mathematical skills: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10% and 100’s.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry on detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Massachusetts Class III driving license for prior three (3) years.  Clean driving record obtained from employee’s insurance agent.  Clean Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI).

 

Other Qualifications: Must possess knowledge of the primary and secondary roads of Taunton and Attleboro and the surrounding areas.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.  The employee is occasionally required to push, pull, stand, walk, reach with hand and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

Regular attendance is required. Reporting to work on time is required. Class III License is required and must be kept current and meet its requirements.

 

 

Pre-employment testing:

 

All employment is contingent upon successfully passing a physical and drug test.  Candidates may be asked to complete a test to assess job aptitude and evaluate strengths and weaknesses in relationship to the requirements of the job.  Employment decisions will not be based solely on the results of such testing.
