Transdev Services, Inc. operates public transportation services under contract with governmental entities in North America. Here in Las Vegas, Transdev is the contract operator for the Regional Transportation Commission’s (RTC) paratransit service since August 3, 2014. The paratransit share ride service provides public transportation for people with disabilities, as required by federal law, specific to those who are functionally unable to independently use regular public transportation. We know that paratransit service is much more than just a specialized transport service. For our passengers, paratransit means accessibility and independence. 


The Assistant Sheduling Manager is  responsible for assisting/administering all aspects of micro and macro route planning including taking the lead on all run cuts, establishing all vehicle runs, proper set up of all routes and vehicles to routes, proper anchoring of standing orders and overseeing changes to standing orders including ensuring proper communication to all riders regarding changes to standing orders to ensure optimum efficiency of all routing.  To further ensure optimum productivity and minimal rider on-board time, the Assistant Scheduling Manager, working with schedulers, utilizes Trapeze PASS scheduling tools to adjust routing parameters to ensure continual optimal route creation.  This position is also responsible for establishing scheduler shifts and monitoring scheduler work quality and responsible for ensuring driver input is synthesized for integration into daily routes to maximize schedule quality and minimize rider complaints.


The role of a scheduler is to develop the order of pickups and dropoffs, as effectively and efficiently as possible. Scheduling requires a strong understanding of the services to be provided, the system’s policies and procedures, a good sense of problem solving, and the ability to interact with customers.


A Scheduler must be able to balance the customers’ need to get to their destination with the system’s need to maintain high productivity.  And, they have to interact with dispatchers and drivers after the schedule has been created. A good scheduler has to be an expert problem solver, be detailed oriented, work well under pressure, be flexible and be persistent.


Paratransit scheduling is much more complicated than fixed route service scheduling. The service changes on a daily basis, as a result of demand, and new scheduling solutions must be found every day. What works one day, will very likely have to be modified significantly in order to work the next day. 



Key Responsibilities:

  • Creates daily manifests for paratransit drivers based on customer demands and labor agreements.
  • Assist Reservationist with placing trips on drivers manifest and negotiating appropriate trip times for customer at point of call.
  • Contacts Customers during scheduling process when appropriate to negotiate pick up window for efficiency in the service.
  • Assigns Drivers in VDS and Trapeze and compares systems to make sure all routes are covered daily.
  • Assist Management in recruiting drivers to work additional hours and to cover for scheduled absences or for early call-offs prior to close of daily scheduling.
  • Monitors efficiencies of manifests to ensure that routes are logical and efficient based on customer needs.
  • Utilizes computer software to assist in the development of schedules, Drivers Bid, vehicle hour, mileage, and patronage statistic
  • Develops and maintains statistical records regarding schedules, personnel requirements, and equipment requirements
  • Prepares, orders, and proofreads schedule materials prior to publication
  • Assist in analyzing and responding in writing to operations personnel and patron complaint letters recommended changes
  • Participates in test trips of new or revised subscription group tours
  • Maintains a clean and well-organized work area
  • Other duties as required




Education, Licensing, and Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required


  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in paratransit operations.
  • Positive labor relation skills and knowledge; including administration of employee training, coaching, discipline and labor grievances.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven experience working as a team among diverse groups.
  • Knowlegdge of local area; preferred.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Strong commitment to Paratransit
  • Experience with paratransit scheduling software TRAPEZE PASS, IVR systems, Mobil Data Terminals (MDT), call center/customer service experience.
  • Superior interpersonal, organization and communication skills; ability to lead and gain buy-in from direct reports and corporate support teams.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and understand maps
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and explain transit system operating rules, regulations, policies, phases and routes
  • Perform arithmetic and basic statistical calculations rapidly and accurately
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Manipulate and analyze data using arithmetic formulas and detailed procedures
  • Read and understand rules, policies, maps, and schedules
  • Operate a calculator
  • Utilize computer software
  • Set priorities under close deadlines
  • Travel requirement (as a percent): <5% for occasional meetings


Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Must submit to drug testing and a background check

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work flexible shifts (evening/overnight)
  • 100% of work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well ventilated facilities
  • Work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer.
  • The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
