Overview

Operates a streetcar through city streets for the purpose of carrying passengers in a safe manner and in accordance with city, county, state and federal laws, as well as, Company rules and policies. Ensures that the highest quality of streetcar service is delivered to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a streetcar in revenue, non-revenue service and the streetcar storage yard in strict compliance with Transdev’s rules, policies and procedures. Adheres to all traffic safety laws, regulations, standard operating and emergency procedures.

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a streetcar.
  • Observes and interacts with both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
  • Conducts self and interacts in an appropriate, professional manner at all times with the public and customers.
  • Operates communication system in accordance with radio protocols and FCC regulations; announces station stops, communicates with passengers and handles events related to automatic equipment failure announcements and emergencies.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical and electrical failures utilizing on-board diagnostic equipment, circuit breakers, brake cutouts and bypass switches under the direction of Rail Streetcar Supervisors and/or Operations Control Center.
  • Operates streetcar in unusual conditions where specific functions i.e. propulsion, braking, etc., are rendered inoperative. Operates manual track switches as directed.
  • Uses a variety of keys, levers and buttons to activate the streetcar and accelerate.
  • Performs streetcar pre-departure inspection in accordance with set procedures.
  • Assists in acceptance and commissioning of new streetcars and test operations.
  • Responsible to report any unusual occurrences during the course of duty including vehicle and Wayside (maintenance of tracks, clearing and repairing, etc.) issues to the Operations Controller.
  • Completes all required reports accurately at the end of scheduled shift.
  • Performs fare inspection duties as assigned.
  • Works flagging duties as assigned.
  • Assists in providing on-the-job instruction to student operators as required.
  • Completes all other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

Education, Licensing, and Certifications:

  • Possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Possess a valid Ohio Driver License.
  • Must pass Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination including random drug and alcohol screens.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the Operator Streetcar Training Program and be certified to operate a Cincinnati Streetcar.
  • Must be able to be re-certified periodically on Standard Operating Procedures, rules, and hands on proficiency.

Experience:

  • Previous experience working around heavy equipment and/or large vehicles, performing duties under rules, policies, procedures preferred. Experience in military, fire fighter, law enforcement or similar environment requiring vigilance while experiencing distractions.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of dependability, reliability and safety
  • Ability to write clear concise reports
  • Ability to speak clearly, distinctly and effectively in a variety of situations using tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to exercise prudent and timely judgement in standard and emergency situations

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time in a confined space operating the streetcar

  • Must be able to walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend and reach overhead
  • Good manual dexterity
  • Must be able to sustain alertness under tedious circumstances
  • Must be able to manually throw track switches when required
  • Must be able to work in various outdoor temperatures and weather conditions
  • Must be able to work variable shifts including weekends/holidays
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs 
  • This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. You will be required to join the union within 90 days of employment.
  • Duties may require one to work more than eight (8) hours per day or irregular hours (split shifts).

Operators are subject to random alcohol and drug testing as per the Federal Transportation Authority Guidelines.
